How to start Samosa Production Business In Nigeria

Samosa production business is not very popular in Nigeria even though it has been with us for a while now. Compare to other snacks, it is only but a few persons that are into it, often times for personal use. The reverse is the same with some snacks such as meat pie which can be seen everywhere.

This is because meat pie has been there for a very long time while we are only coming to terms with samosa.
If you look around in this part of the world there are no samosa factory at least non in my locality.

Whereas in western world even in south Africa our sister country you can conveniently point to some major samosa industries.
Yet we have so many unemployed individuals roaming about major cities, towns and streets looking for jobs that are not there.

I beckon on our beloved youths to make use of this golden opportunity and establish samosa factories. Employ others to come and work in your factory. You will not only reduce unemployment but must have written your name in the footprint of sand and posterity will judge you right.

SAMOSA AS A SNACK

Samosa is a kind of snack that is prepared with flour, meat and vegetables. It is said to originate from Asia. Samosa is referred to as small chops which are mostly served in events as appetizer.

It is a snack that has a filling after eating it you won’t think of eating any other thing again. Whenever I eat this kind of snack I feel like eating it over and over again.

Some people are of the opinion that it is meat pie in the making. Well judging from the preparation and ingredients used you will agree that they are not far from the truth. To me they are slightly different from each other.

LET’S REASON IT OUT

Samosa has less cholesterol this is because it is only a few drop of oil that is used in preparing it. If you dare add more than is necessary you will not like the outcome. The samosa will become very oily and not desirable.

Whereas for meat pie you just have to be generous with your oil.

Samosa recipe

  • Irish potato
  • green peas, carrot, onions
  • salt
  • water
  • flour
  • minced meat

HOW TO PREPARE SAMOSA

  • Wash and peel the Irish potatoes and carrot. Dice them into small cubes or sizes
  • Pour them into pot, add green peas, add salt into it. Boil with a little water for 5 minutes.
  • Bring the pot down when the carrot and potatoes becomes soft, drain water out and set aside
  • Slice onions round in circle form and set aside.
  • Place frying pan on fire and allow to dry. Pour vegetable oil into it and allow it to get hot for 2 minutes.
  • Pour the sliced onions into the hot oil, add curry powder, garlic and stir for 5 seconds
  • Add the minced meat or chicken and fry. Stir it once in a while until it becomes pale.
  • Add seasoning cube, chilli pepper and salt to taste
  • Add the cooked vegetables into the content and mix them together on a moderate heat for 5 minutes

FOR THE SAMOSA DOUGH

Pour the sieved flour into a big bowl

Add warm water, salt and 3 spoonful of vegetable oil into it. Mix the content until you have a dough

Cover the dough with nylon, plastic material or wrap it with foil and make it air tight. Allow the dough to stay for about 15 minutes

Uncover the dough knead to smoothen it. Place it on a flat surface and use rolling pin to flatten the dough to a thickness of 3mm.

Cut the flattened dough in circles and cut into 2 equal parts. rub water in one of the edges. Make the shape triangular or cone, take a spoonful of the filling and scoop into the samosa. Rub water at the edges and close them together.

Place your pot of vegetable oil on fire allow it to be fully hot. Fry the samosa until it becomes very brown. Bring it out from fire into a sieve for the oil to drain.

You can as well prepare them by baking. Use egg to seal the mouth just as you will do with meat-pie. Rub oil or butter in the baking tray, place your samosa on top and bake for 15 minutes in a temperature of 180 degree

You can combine samosa and spring roll business. They are both made from the same process. The only difference is in the filling and the shape. Samosa is triangular in shape while spring roll has a sausage roll kind of shape.
