There are various types of cake and they are categorised either by the flavour and style used or by the method of preparation. We have over 100 types of cake but in this post, I will be sharing with you how to produce 4 types of cake. I have already explained the meaning of cake in my post on cake business. One thing that is associated with cake is that it brings joy that is why it sparks jubilation whenever celebrants are asked to cut it. Besides, wedding or birthday celebration is not complete without cake. These days, cakes are made to fit into any celebration that’s why you will hear; birthday cake, anniversary cake, baby shower cake, wedding cake etc. Giving a name to a cake helps in distinguishing an occasion. This is not the same when we refer to the types of cake produced.
TYPES OF CAKE
- Sponge/pound cake
- Banana cake
- Apple cake
- Carrot cake
- Coconut cake
- Fruitcake
- Yoghurt cake
- Cherish cake
- Red velvet
- Pineapple upside down cake
COCONUT CAKE
RECIPE
- Flour 3 cups
- Margarine 1 cup
- Sugar 120g
- Egg 4
- Milk 4 tablespoon
- Baking powder 1 teaspoon
- Butter milk ¼ cup
- Coconut flack 100g
- Salt ½ tablespoon
- Flavour 1 tablespoon
PREPARATION
- In a big bowl, beat sugar and butter till fluffy
- Add egg yolk one at a time and beat well after adding each
- Mix flour, baking powder and salt to the mixture of butter and sugar
- Add the beaten egg, butter milk; introduce flour mixture by folding bit by bit and finally the coconut flakes.
- Transfer the mixture into a cake pan and bake for an hour until it is done.
CHOCOLATE CAKE
RECIPE
- Flour 2 cups
- Sugar 2 cups
- Milk 1 cup
- Melted margarine ½ cup
- Egg 2
- Salt 1 tablespoon
- Baking powder 1 and ½ tablespoons
- Flavour 2 tablespoon
- Cocoa powder 180g
- Boiling water 1 cup
PREPARATION
- Pre-heat the oven and grease the cake pan
- Mix the wet ingredient in a large bowl
- Place the butter milk vanilla flavour and sugar in a bowl
- Use egg whisk or mincer to blend them well
- Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl
- Put the flour, salt, cocoa powder and baking powder in a small bowl and stir them together till well incorporated.
- Add the dry mixture into the wet mixture.
- Beat the mixture slowly till the dough comes together
- Turn batter in cake pan and bake for 40 minutes
BANANA CAKE
RECIPE
- Overripe banana 1 and ½ cups
- Lemon juice 2 cups
- Salt ½ tablespoon
- Butter 200g
- Sugar 2 and ½ cups
- Flavour 2 tablespoon
- Flour 4 cups
- Milk ½ cup
- Baking powder 2 tablespoon
PREPARATION
- Cream butter and sugar together until it becomes fluffy
- Whisk egg and keep aside
- Introduce egg into the beaten mixture, little by little
- Add milk and the overripped banana and mix well
- Turn the dough into the pan and bake for 40 minutes or untill the cake is done
MARBLE CAKE
RECIPE
- Flour 500g
- Butter 500g
- Baking powder 2 teaspoon
- Eggs 8
- Salt 1 teaspoon
- Sugar 300g
- Preservative 30ml
- Flavour 1 teaspoon
- Food colouring 3 colours
PREPARATION
- Pre-heat oven for 370°C
- Sieve the flour in a small bowl
- Add baking powder and salt into it
- Mix it continuously until it is well Incorporated
- In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar using your hand or a standing mixer till it is fluffy
- Add egg, flavour and milk to the mixture and mix thoroughly.
INTRODUCTION OF FOOD COLOUR INTO THE BATTER
- Pour the batter into 3 bowls
- Add different colours to each bowl
- Grease your pan and sprinkle flour on it
- Pour the first colour into the pan then the second and lastly the third.
- Bake for one hour or till it is done.
CONCLUSION
There are more than 100 types of cake designs you can find around but what thrips me most is these four. This is because the designs are simply classic. Go ahead, bake your cake and give it the most adorable designs you can think of. But don’t forget these 4 types.
