Insecticide are liquid chemicals, emulsions, solutions or solid substances produced to kill or repel crawling animals and insects in the home and around us. Insecticide production will help us to curtail the activities of these animals if not their population will escalate.
Mosquitoes top the list of the reasons why insecticides are seen in almost every home. As small as the insects are they have killed so many especially children. Apart from malaria disease which they cause, the discomfort mosquitoes produce with their noise and bite is enough to attack them.

underdeveloped countries like Nigeria suffer so much from malaria whereas some developed countries like Unied Kingdom have been able to completely eradicate them. Apart from mosquitoes we have other harmful insects such as centipede, ants, bed bugs, spiders etc. Some insecticide depending on their concentration kills wall gecko, scorpion etc.
In our country today so much money has been spent by individuals, families and Institutions in the purchase of insecticide. They high rate of usage has kept the producers in business right from when they started. We have companies like Baygon, Raid, Kill it, BNC, Rambo Kill all etc. Insecticide production is not difficult as some of us think. As a matter of fact you can produce this chemical with the things you have around your home.
You can produce insecticide for personal use especially if you are not satisfied with the ones you buy from the market. Some of the insecticides sold in the market are harmful to our health the more reason why you should produce your own in other to suit your purpose.
In this post I will be giving you a step by step guide on the production of insecticide that can compete with the ones in the market. If you are producing for commercial, packaging will be very important.
HOW TO START INSECTICIDE PRODUCTION
Some chemicals are formulated to kill insects as such they will stop at nothing but to kill all the insects that comes in contact with them. While others are formulated to only repel them. That is why they only end up repelling no matter the amount of concentration that is put to use. This can be attributed to the strength of they chemicals that are combined. The active ingredients used in their formulation are different.

You must have noticed that there are some insecticides you use in fleeting the house after some hours you still see mosquitoes even when they openings were all closed. What the insecticide does is to weaken the mosquitoes after which they bounce back when the effect of such chemical is exhausted.
In production it is advisable you use or combine more than one killer in other to get effective result. This is the chemical that kills insects; they are of different types. Some companies like sniper use one of the names as their company name. Some chemicals are faster than others due to the concentration in their final product.
MATERIALS
- Containers for packaging
- Big container for mixture or bowl
- Stirring rod
INGREDIENTS
Solvent (kerosene, water, powder) 1 litre This is very important because the act as base for the solution.
- Eucalyptus oil 30ml
- Camphor 200
- Colour to taste
- Fragrance as desired
Killers (no pest, rocket, VIP, perfect killer, sniper etc) 1 small bottle.
You can choose one out of these or a combination of two or more of it. The effectiveness of the chemical depends on the concentration. If you are using 1 bottle of killers that means you have to use 1 litre of kerosene. For 2 bottles you also use 2 litres of kerosene.
PROCEDURE
Pour the kerosene into the bowl or container
Put the powdered camphor into the kerosene and stir. Some people soak the camphor with a little quantity of kerosene for 3 hours or more.
- Pour the eucalyptus oil and stir
- Add the killers and stir
- Drop some fragrance into the content
- Add colour
- Put a few drops of formalin into the insecticide for preservation.
- Package your insecticide for sale or use.
NOTE
Solvents are important in the production of insecticide. Various solvent are used in handling various active ingredients. That is why you should choose the right solvent because some ingredients may not be soluble in some solvent.
Use fragrances that smell good so that your insecticide may be acceptable by customers. It will make patronage to be high. Different things can be used for their packaging such as plastic, pet bottles, containers for the liquid insecticide; printed paper or racks in case of powder.
Use facemask and gloves during insecticide production. And be very cautious when producing because chemicals can affect our health when constantly being exposed to them.
IS INSECTICIDE PRODUCTION PROFITABLE
The business of insecticides production is profitable because the little quantity of chemical used in the production will be put in small containers that are sold at high price. Insecticides prices are going higher every day.

And you sold each #500, multiply by 100 you will have #50,000. After subtracting all other expenses your take home money will still be big.
MARKETABILITY
Employ workers to sell for you at different spots such as; traffic, bus stop, markets and homes. If you are able to register with NAFDAC you start supplying to malls, supermarkets, stores etc.
Find out the ones people buy most in your location and produce so. New companies are out that produces theirs in powder and packaged in small sachet and many people are patronising them because the price is affordable.

The ingredients for their production is readily available at home and chemical shops at affordable prices.
Insecticide production in Nigeria can be started with a little amount of money depending on the capital. You can start small with #100,000 and more than #5,000,000 for a large-scale. But you must have a certificate of operation for the large-scale if not NAFDAC will cease your products.
